Getting from cancun to cozumel :-
Arranging transportation can be the most stressful part of an otherwise dreamy vacation, and the last thing you want after a long flight or an amazing dive trip is to be overwhelmed with tricky transportation options. And walking out of the Cancun airport and into a line of taxis, shuttles, and buses? That can be a little disorienting.
So, to save you a bit of stress and a whole lot of time, we’ve compiled this quick guide to getting from Cancun to Cozumel. By the time you’ve finished reading it you’ll know exactly how to navigate your way to Cozumel and back without adding any stress to your itinerary.Buy Cancun Airport - Cozumel Ferry
From the Cancun airport to Cozumel
So you’ve arrived at the airport, you’ve gotten some pesos out of the ATM, and you’ve changed into your flip-flops. Now for the next step: getting to Cozumel.
While it’s possible to fly to the tiny SCUBA-lover’s island, you’ll save yourself quite a few pesos by making your way to Playa del Carmen and taking a ferry from there.
Taxis are an option for smaller groups and can be found just outside Terminal 3, where most international flights arrive. But if you’re traveling with a group, have a whole lot of luggage, or just aren’t feeling up for calling a cab, you might consider taking a private shuttle directly to the ferry.
Taking a private shuttle is the quickest and most convenient way of getting from Cancun to Cozumel, so it’s an ideal option for families and groups.
There is (usually) a catch, though; most private shuttles between Cancun and Playa charge per passenger, so while they offer more storage space and seating, they’ll cost quite a bit more per person than a cab would.
One exception? This private shuttle service offers a direct trip from the airport to the Cozumel ferry at a flat rate for one to eight passengers, including plenty of room for luggage and an optional stop to pick up drinks and snacks. For anyone traveling in a group or carrying a lot of luggage, this is a convenient and competitive option.
Once you’re in Playa del Carmen, hopping over to Cozumel is a breeze. Ferries leave every hour and cost $163 pesos for adults and $97 pesos for kids. (Note that prices are liable to fluctuate! The best way to check current prices is to visit the websites for the ferries offered by UltraMar, Mexico Waterjets, and Barcos Caribe.)
From Cozumel to the Cancun airport
So how about on your way from Cozumel to Cancun? Getting back to the Cancun airport from Cozumel is just as easy as getting to Cozumel was.
Ferries from Cozumel to Playa leave every hour of every day, weather permitting, and tickets cost the same in either direction.
Once you’re back in Playa, you have the same transportation options for getting back to Cancun: taxi, shuttle, or bus. Feeling too tired after your dream diving trip to worry about flagging down a cab or buying bus tickets? Not to worry!
Our private shuttles can be reserved up to an hour in advance, giving you the perfect window to sip a margarita and grab a bite to eat downtown before saying adios to Playa del Carmen.
